Outsourced BIM manager

Roles covered. Decisions that stay yours.

We provide contracting authorities, contractors and design firms with the BIM roles they lack in-house: BIM manager, BIM coordinator, CDE manager and BIM specialist, as defined by UNI 11337-7. They work inside your processes and tools, for one project or for the whole organisation, and leave procedures and skills behind.

How the engagement works

  1. 1

    Ongoing presence

A dedicated person, on site or remote, with an agreed presence every week. Suited to authorities and contractors with several open projects.

  2. 2

    By milestone

Work at the milestones that matter: tender, BEP approval, deliveries, verification, acceptance. Suited to a single project.

  3. 3

    Mentoring and handover

We cover the role while training the person who will take it over. Support shrinks as the in-house person grows.

    Who covers the role?

Annex I.9 requires a CDE manager and at least one BIM manager at authority level, and an information-flow coordinator for each intervention in the RUP's support team. If not available in-house they are outsourced; decision-making power stays with the authority.

BIM manager and BIM coordinator: who does what

The BIM manager works at organisation level: decides standards, procedures, tools and training, and checks they are applied on every project. The BIM coordinator works on a single project: federates discipline models, leads coordination and checks that deliveries meet the BEP.

In an Italian contracting authority the two roles match the digital process manager and the information-flow coordinator of Annex I.9. On small projects the same person can hold both, as long as responsibilities stay clear.

Frequently asked questions

Can a contracting authority appoint an external BIM manager?+

Yes. Annex I.9 prefers in-house staff with documented skills and, if none are available, allows the functions to be outsourced under the Public Contracts Code. The Ministry guidelines of 20 February 2026 state that decision-making power stays with the contracting authority.

Is UNI 11337-7 certification required?+

Not by law: the Code asks for adequate skills, gained through professional practice or training. Certification, which is voluntary and issued by accredited bodies, can be required by the EIR or rewarded among the award criteria.

Does the outsourced BIM manager work with our software?+

Yes. We work in the common data environment and with the tools you already have or that the contract specifies, and exchange models in open formats such as IFC and BCF. If something is missing we say so, but we do not impose a platform.

For how long can the role be outsourced?+

For a single project, for a set period or until the in-house person is ready. A mentoring set-up often works best: we cover the role and meanwhile train the person who will take it over.

Which role are you missing?

Tell us the role, project and timing. We will reply within one working day with a proposed set-up.
